A number of European and two American studies have demonstrated a relationship between celiac disease and infertility. In 188 infertile women, 5.9% of those presenting with unexplained infertility had undiagnosed celiac by antibodies.

  • Antibodies tested for celiac screening represent only one type of several gliadin peptides, and transglutaminase enzymes (meaning there are many undiagnosed but still wheat-reactive).
  • If you are struggling with infertility, I strongly recommend elimination of gluten and cross-reactants like dairy and corn.
  • Even if you are not struggling with infertility, but planning a pregnancy, consider elimination of grains to minimize local and systemic inflammation and sugar imbalance.
