Hungry all the Time? Paleo Solution
So much about the Paleo diet makes intuitive sense, given its primary reliance on vegetables, natural fats, and animal protein, but quantification of its effects on the body is always welcome.
In a recent randomized cross-over trial of 13 patients with type 2 diabetes, researchers sought to quantify patient's experience of the diet. Their previous research had demonstrated improvements over three months in many cardiovascular and blood sugar measures such as blood pressure, HDL cholesterol, body mass index, and HgA1C (a measure of sugar's damage to protein in the body).
In the current report, they found that relative to a "Diabetes diet" notable for whole grains and low fat dairy products, the Paleo diet resulted in greater satiety. Regaining control over one's appetite can happen through increased protein, natural fats, and improvement in hormonal regulation of blood sugar through insulin and leptin sensitivity. Elimination of grains and dairy can be the way off the blood sugar roller coaster.
