I hope that you are ready to open your mind, heart, and body to a new perspective on mental health and wellness; one that I feel is long overdue. When I am not with patients, I am reading primary source data, dialoguing with colleagues, and teaching, and I intend to bring you all of the pearls of this process so that you can be armed with health-changing information your doctor may not be aware of.

I firmly believe in patient-centered care, and consumer empowerment. When you have full access to the science that supports making more mindful decisions regarding eating, environmental exposures, and medical interventions, you may save yourself a life of prescription medications that bring minimal results and often maximal side effects.

By way of introduction, here is a brief tour of topical updates you can expect:

What is Psychiatry Really About?

I am interested in pioneering a new and more sophisticated way of thinking about mental health – everything from daily fatigue and forgetfulness to schizophrenia. Based on developing models of chronic disease that reflect dietary and environmental influences on our inflammatory response and immune system, psychiatry should not be left out in the cold. You may think you were born with it, but I’ll show you how to change it by minimizing stress and toxic exposures and maximizing anti-inflammatory, nutrient dense diets. It works!

What to Eat

The core of my personal, parental, and professional approach is a diet devoid of fake foods. You can read some of my general tenets here. I have grave concerns about gluten and about genetically modified foods. My concerns are rooted in a growing body of literature that suggests these toxins are at the root of your health concerns.

What to Manage

Thanks to poor regulation and ignored signals of harm, we are living in quite a toxic soup. Some of these day-to-day exposures can influence your immune system, hormones, and brain health. Relaxation response and exercise are prominently featured interventions that accomplish myriad complex health goals, often within minutes.

For the Ladies

My specialization in women’s mental health and perinatal psychiatry has given me a unique perspective on the risks and considerations involved with medications in this perspective. I take issue with birth control pillscholesterol and acid blocking medications, and provide evidence for why we should look at psychiatric prescribing through a more critical lens. Safe and effective alternatives for hormone balancing exist, and here is an example of my perspective. I have a special interest in thyroid health. My writing will also provide up-to-date, scientific support for intervention-free pregnancybirthing, and breastfeeding options.

For the Kiddos

Before I am a doctor, I am a mom. My research on supporting wellness stems from my belief that it is a mother’s responsibility to protect her children’s microbiome and mitochondria. What?! Yes, follow me for how to keep your children robustly healthy in a world that sometimes conspires to produce chronic sickness.

On my site, you’ll find brief videossnippets or short blog posts, and longer, well-referenced articles that will help you to feel confident pursuing natural health goals with lifestyle-based interventions. My resources page should prove to be a helpful and up to date go-to for implementation of these concepts and other like-minded writers and providers.

I’m so excited you’ve joined me in this revolution. It’s a great time to get informed!

Warmly,

KB
